On today's walk the birds were busy. These bridge nests seemed empty; but, I'm sure will be full before long of little peeps.
Has been overcast all day with afternoon wind building along with the dark grey clouds with forecast for ??? thunderstorms. This was a dessert cooking afternoon for me as J is fond of the Cathy half moon shaped cakes I bake with my 101 Express machine. Got busy baking 14 half moon cakes. I froze 12 of them for down the road nibbles. :)
J went to the bath house for his shower coming back to our 5er excited for me to come for a photo shoot. Here it is. A huge paper bee nest high up in a tree beside the bath house. I zoomed for a few pics. The bees were small and active. Not quite understanding their type and concerned as the Boys Scouts use this section of the park for camping, we called the Ranger to enlighten them of their existance. They did know about the bees. Appears this was an old hornet's nest that was taken over by some type of bee. Looks like honey bees. ??? The nest has been sprayed by an exterminating company. Since they are still active, the same company will be notified to come spray again. The State Park wants to salvage the nest; but, can't do so until all the bees are killed or gone. This nest is about 18 inches wide by 30 inches tall. HUGE! WOW! Things we see when we stay more than one night. Here is a look at the bottom of the nest with its comb. Trees are full of Air Plants seen here around the nest.
Only two campers here on the back forty. Temp has dropped from 70's to now 47 degrees as I type.
