The Mississippi Welcome center was all decked out for Mardi Gras adding color to their antiques and their carved wood art. They were also serving hot coffee and King cake. YUM!
A call to the Ranger held us their last campsite #31. Upon arrival at Davis Bayou we had to stop at one of the Bayou ponds for a photo shoot of the alligator & turtles welcoming party as they soaked up the suns warm rays.
A call to the Ocean Springs Family Dental office landed J a same day 2:30 p.m. appointment. UT OH! A crown in the works lengthening our stay until January 28th. A wonderful dentist with staff who for 2 1/2 hrs. used kid gloves working on J's bad tooth. As I waited, I added a few stitches to my crocheting project. J had a good night with NO pain. YEAH!
Thursday we found regular gas at the D'Iberville Walmart for $1.52.9. Since then, regular gas prices have fallen to as low as $1.49.9 in this area.
Winn Dixie had the Blue Runner Red River spicy creole beans and Andulle sausage for our next dish to cook. The Republican Debate was the night's TV menu.
Friday was move to site #11 then move once more on Sunday to site #19. The park ranger was very nice accommodating as best he could. We took in the sites of Ocean Springs, MS, where we were greeted at the Chamber of Commerce by the metal pelican and other metal art. Ocean Springs is located in Jackson county and is known as the City of Discovery in recognition of the French establishment of a settlement here in 1699. Lying on the eastern shore of Biloxi Bay, Ocean Springs was severely affected in 2005 by strong winds & high surge of Hurricane Katrina. Barren lots with pilings are evidence of homes lost to the hurricanes fury.
Here we discovered they no longer give FREE $5 wooden coins to be used at participating businesses and the Biloxi Margarittaville closed September 2015 due to lack of funds and a dispute with the landlord. We did get a FREE calendar.
The wonderful Ranger here at Davis Bayou worked with us able to stay here in this park while J waited for his last dental appointment. Yes, we had to move 3 times...but, that was OK.
On Saturday, we traveled to Gulfport for their Mardi Gras parade (the first of the season of multiple parades, balls, and events). Mardi Gras is a pre-lent festival or carnival that dates back thousands of years. Purple, gold, & green are the iconic colors. We parked 2 hrs. early in the parking lot in front of a glass shop to discover we were rubbing elbows with the business family. Mama Jane was 82 y/o. She and hubby bought this business in 1981. The parade was beads, beads, and more beads of all sizes and color.

Army ROTC above. Krewe at right...the organization that put on the parade.Do you think we got enough beads? LOL A total of 23 assorted beads of size and color. Well, we plan to attend the next Mardi Gras parade in Ocean Springs, MS, on Saturday, January 23rd.
Until next time...see you by the campfire.
