Winter Storm Jonas & Ocean Springs Parade

Thursday...January 21...Our weather changed.  Sunny skies grew dark late in the day as winter storm Jonas arrived for us as a cold front with strong storms.  The thunder rolled and the lightning striked while wind gusts to 31mph knocked at our door.  The moans of the nightly train sounded forlorn as the thunder rolled and the lightning striked.  J in his bunk and I with my crochet hook closely monitored the passing storms as we were in a tornado watch.  Unable to sleep, many stitches were made as Dancing Dollies took shape.  The storms came in bands with soft pecking rain to pelting downpours.  All done by morning without damage.  Twice our satellite dish was blown over by the gusty wind with J  up-righting adding another water filled gallon jug as an anchor for our morning news & yap.  Our temps dropped from comfy 60's to 40's for a Friday high.

J worked on his swivel/rocker chair.  Last week he threw out several bearings.  In tightening today...he threw out a few more bearings...always able to get it back together.  LOL

Next we tackled one of the window shades that had a frayed/broken string that makes it possible to raise.  We had redone another window shade about 2 yrs. ago.  So, we were NOT totally in the dark with this project.  After back and forth....right/wrong/maybe....we got it strung and once again hung.  Our dining window is holding on a thread, too. But, not going to tackle that one until it breaks as we will be going from 2 cords to 4.  Now that will be a challenge!!!

Temps have warmed a bit for the Ocean Springs Mardi Gras parade hosted by the Elk's Lodge.  About 100 floats graced downtown offering beads & trinkets to festival goers. We lucked up with the last parking spot at the corner bank walking 2 blocks with our dove stools finding a sunny spot beside a nice military family who, also, are from NC.

Led by the police and fire trucks...we had a GREAT day with happy folk.

Our dove stools filled up quickly with beads as well as our necks.  A GRAND TOTAL of 125 beads of variety PLUS trinkets and candy.  One person threw me a cell phone case in its bag with a $10 price tag.  WOW!  This was the BEST parade ever for me.

Do you think we got enough beads?

Until next blog.  Take care...stay safe and warm.
See you by the campfire.......
