Benson to Quartzsite, AZ

Leaving Benson we had an 18mph tailwind that after gas at Eloy we were getting 12mpg...best mileage since we left NC.  Folk were skydiving near the Gila Bend mountains.  Gila River was dry. We passed Lewis Prison on I-85 as we started seeing the green Palo Verde trees.  Then lost our tailwind to a headwind.  Still enjoying the bridges and wall art.  Very different from the east.

Along the roadsides, Brittle bushes had bright yellow blossoms.

There were several 18-wheelers with trailer wings to be more aerodynamic.  Different.
Below is Picatcho Peak where we camped in a tent among saguaros in their SP several yrs. ago with the wind moving the tent 3 times before we could get it staked into the hard rocks.

Here is an example of some of the southwestern style homes on the rocky hillsides.

There were project irrigation canals to reclaim the desert for farm land.

They are growing alfalfa for hay.  Crop duster.
Alfalfa fields with hay stored under the white canvas sheds and in front (at bottom) is the irrigation canal that waters the desert farmland.
I-8 did have OPEN Rest Areas.  This looks like a mine.

The terrain is changing again.                                               We have arrived!!!!!
