Our trip thru Texas began in the Pineywoods with Lake Livingston SP at Livingston, TX. Here one can find an abundance of National Forests and National Preserves with thick forests of pines, hickory, and oak. The many lakes, streams, and rivers keep this area green where fields of wildflowers flourish. Lake Livingston is fed by the Trinity River and is an angler's delight. Catfish and white bass are plentiful. There is a lighted fishing pier. The area though was water logged from all the El Nino rains. Those who ventured to have a campfire had a smoke fire as the wet wood did not burn very well.
Stoplights here were different. Sideways instead of up and down.
There was construction on the Trinity River bridge. Another tight spot for driving our rig.
Sunny with warming temps, J changed into shorts at this roadside Rest Area with Picnic table. There was a house down the hill in the bottom with 2 dogs that started barking when they saw us walk up to the picnic table. After a couple runs around their fenced yard...here they came to greet us...a sweet Basset Hound and a Dashound. Too cute.
Livingston SP store, docks, & lighted pier.
Texas working oil wells... black gold.
A RR trestle across a river. Unique design!
Cattle and goats are seen everywhere.
We bypassed Bastrop SP located east of Austin. Bastrop is among what is called the "Lost Pines", believed to have once been part of a huge pine-oak forest in Central Texas. Below is evidence of the firestorm known as the Bastrop County Complex Fire that engulfed Bastrop, Texas. It is now regarded as the most catastrophic wildfire in Texas history. So, with this said...we chose to move on.
Tune in for more as we travel thru the great state of Texas. We are enjoying the nice 2 lane, 4 lane, and divided country highways...instead of Interstates. J is getting spoiled. Few to no big trucks.
