Fort Pickens Evacuation and Christmas

The week before Christmas was interesting.  Armadillos were out and about every afternoon.
Bicycle riding was fun until I had an OOPS!  Broke my left arm at the elbow.  Gulf Breeze Baptist ER was super nice.  Arm in a splint for a week.  Now under ortho doc's care thru Jan 2 +/-.  Dec. 20 we were EVACUATED from Fort Pickens campground due to ??? stormy weather on its way.  As we were leaving the island we met emergency personnel heading towards the campground/fishing pier area.  Continued on our way to Krul Forest campground near Milton, FL.  J plugged his electric surge protector into at least 15 different sites with all reading "reverse polarity".  UT OH!  Can't have that.  No wonder there were NO campers in the campground....only the host.  So, we drove 2 miles further to Bear Lake campground in the Blackwater River State Forest.  Found a nice pull-thru where we camped for the weekend.  Had some rain...lots of wind.

Monday, Dec. 23 the entrance road to Fort Pickens re-opened with us returning to a different site in loop C.  Our campground host enlightened us that the Friday emergency was 2 different boating accidents where 2 people drowned.  Sad!  Cold and windy...we have hunkered down for the holiday.  J cooked a pot of New Orleans style red beans while I nuked rice for a delicious meal.  Baked potatoes and yummy chocolate chip cookies in our NuWave oven.  YUM!  YUM!

Yesterday and today has been watch the campers arrive with few knowing how to back a rig into a tight site.  They have been all over the road, their site, and their neighbor's sites as they line up their abodes.  What a circus.  We also watched a motorhome leave with his TV antenna fully raised.  UT OH!  We can't run out and flag them all down....so, he was on his own.  Hopefully the toad behind would notice before he caught it on a limb.  Dogs, dogs, and more dogs along with a lot of yappers.  Folk walking and biking enjoying their stay.

Always fun camping.  See you by the campfire.
