Southern bound...

November 25, 2013...A cold 18 degrees with fast hook-up & departure beginning our snowbird adventure.  I-95 S was not too busy with overnight at a Wilco Hess travel ctr. near Hardeeville, SC.  Up early pulling out at 3 a.m. for Ocean Pond campground near Lake City, FL.  Light rain at Jacksonville that continued thru the day.  We were able to get site #7 for almost 2 wks.  Thanksgiving Day was a cold 30 degrees with non traditional meal.  Yummy!  Our hunter friends wanted to share a can of Busch beer where the can itself was ORANGE in color.  Busch makes beer for this hunting area with the orange cans.  When the number of cans made are all sold....you won't be able to buy one until the next hunting season.  I guess they figure if the hunter does not wear blaze orange....they will be seen by their orange can of beer.  LOL  Met a new KY friend with us picking up pine needles starting her a basket.  Laundry wanted you to use a CC or debit card.  I'm a quarter gal...waiting until.  We found Nettles Sausage Inc. outside Lake City buying several pkgs. sausage and bun length links.  They have their own meat processing plant beside the store processing their own home grown pork and beef.  Yummy sausage.
J paddled his inflatable kayak several times on the pan shaped pond.  Bicycle riding was nice as mostly flat...few hills.
We also visited the Olustee Battleground on 17 Campground Rd. where the southern boys won the battle back when.

Dec. 8...Foggy.  Pulled out for East Bank Lake Seminole across the FL line in GA.
Had a downhill grade before our lakeside site on a big level cement slab.  Had to be careful here due to the Argentine ANTS.  Can't let anything touch the ground unless you spray, spray, spray to keep them at bay.  We kept water/electric lines up off the ground and did NOT put out awning to tie down due to forecast of storms.  While there we had a sudden blow of 28mph sustained wind hitting us broad side.  Our little 5er trembled; but, was strong.
The campground host shared a nice website with Mexican cooking..... Mexicoinmykitchen.com

Dec. 11...Up at 6a.m. for an early start to Fort Pickens near Gulf Breeze, FL.  Fort Pickens is on Santa Rosa Island (one of the Gulf National Seashore Islands).  Here the Gulf of Mexico has blue-green waters, the whitest sand I have ever seen.....looked like snow.  This is a barrier island that protects the mainland from violent storms.
Here the sand is so white it reminds me of snow.

The first federal tree farm was developed nearby at Naval Live Oaks Area in 1828 for the single purpose of cultivating live oaks, used for shipbuilding.

The Naval Aviation Museum and Pensacola Lighthouse were a nice treat.
We will be pulling out Christmas Day heading towards Mississippi.
See you by the campfire.
