Garden...

It's that time of year again.  Time to till the soil and plant the garden  We arrived home from our snowbird winter first week in April.  J bought a variety flat of plants to give us a head start vs seeds.  Lots of tilling took place...then plants and seeds in the soil.  We had several days of torrential rain...about 4 inches very quickly that moved some of our loose soil covering some of our seeds too deep.

J decided to take the wagon into the muddy garden...fill it with the dirt/mud to transfer back where it had washed.  In doing so, he backed it in on the boards with the riding mower.  But, did not think to put the trailer wheels on boards, too.  Then when he started to pull the heavy load he got the whole rig stuck big time.  He had to unhook...get the riding mower out...go buy a new wheelbarrow to move the dirt.  What a fiasco.

Tired and pooped J built a fire in the firepit for us to enjoy while he grilled marinated chicken breasts for our dinner to go with my steamed veggie medley and creamed Idahoan potatoes.  Zucchini nut bread for dessert.  YUM!  YUM!
Pole string beans are strung...tomatoes and peppers are staked with PVC water pipe capped at the top to keep out bugs.  Works nicely.  Have to put up a wire to tie them to at the top...but, that works for us.
We have 1 row King of the Garden large pole lima beans...2 1/2 rows pole string beans...1 row large tomatoes plus 4 Roma plants...1 row of sweet peppers plus 4 hot pepper plants...4 eggplant...8 hills of long green Burpless cucumbers...and 6 short rows of Georgia Big Boy Peas.  The peas are like a Blacyeye pea...only larger with yellow skin and brown eyes.

To the right are radish and green zucchini to make zucchini nut bread for J.  He can eat a loaf every week if I had freezer room for that many loaves.

Here are yellow straightneck squash plants.  Our garden is in an "L" shape.  Here we have potatoes, yellow squash, more peas, and okra planted.

Below our Princess Diana rose was the first one to bloom.  I have red Veteran's Honor, pink aromatic Mother's Day roses, New Day yellow, and a Walmart special.  LOL  When I lived in VA I had over 100 roses of all colors.  Really enjoyed their beauty.

House Wrens have built and are nesting in the birdhouse beside the carport.  There were Chickadees in the front yard box until the door came open one night exposing the nest with nothing to show for their efforts...no eggs...no nothing.  So, waiting to see IF the Bluebirds take over or IF we will have to build them their own box.  Until next time...take care...travel safe.  See you in the garden or by the campfire.
